Clarity is kind
Hands up if you enjoy having tricky conversations….
Yeah, thought not.
Telling someone that their performance isn’t good enough, or that they didn’t get the job, or that there’s been a client complaint against them and so on, isn’t usually at the top of our ‘want to do’ list.
And if you’ve got some Dog traits (go here if you’ve no idea what I’m talking about) then you may have a tendency to skim over the uncomfortable bits and focus on the good news.
Why?
Because we don’t want to upset the other person, or we don’t want an argument or we feel bad or…..
What we tend to forget is that if the boot were on the other foot, you would want to know. Wouldn’t you? Because if you don’t know where you’re going wrong then you can’t do anything about it.
So next time you’re in a position where you need to give some constructive feedback, you might want to remember that clarity is kind.
And if you need some help in how to deliver the feedback so that the recipient leaves motivated to change, we give you tools and practise on our Leadership training (because it’s the key thing most leaders need help with and is a total game changer).
Clarity really is kind.
