Oh Boris!
If there is one thing you can count on from Boris Johnson, it’s a bumbling array of lies and a complete denial of the truth.
How fabulous.
Unfortunately, 2020 was a year when our country needed a leader who could guide us through a time of utter chaos most will never forget.
What we had to settle for was something totally different.
No matter which political party you support – this is not going to be a political debate, promise – one thing cannot be denied…
The Tories have lied through their teeth throughout the current Covid-19 Inquiry.
Now, imagine being thrust into a burning spotlight, a country of eyes clamped on you, knowing all too well that you royally messed up.
It can’t be easy. I’ll hand it to them.
But…
…you saw that coming…
Now would be the time to own up to those mistakes – no matter how colossal – take responsibility, and repair the damage.
Anything? At all? Nope?
(I think we might be waiting a while).
These are the leaders of our country *GULP* and there is no trust.
Here’s what the Tories seem to have missed…
Being in a position of leadership does not mean that people automatically trust you.
And that’s exactly how it should be.
Bo-Bo’s mistake was thinking, “I’m the leader here so you *must* trust me”.
But, oh bumbling Bojo, that’s just not how great leadership works.
As a leader, you must earn the trust of your people.
Trust is the thread that weaves a team together and forges strong relational bonds that see an organisation thriving.
Without that, all your team have is a reason to doubt you.
Don’t make the mistake that so many political leaders make and believe you are owed trust because ‘your title says so’.
Leadership is not a title, it’s a way of behaving.
Let’s learn a lesson from the Tories (that they have yet to learn themselves *big sigh*) and do it right from the start!
Show them you are trustworthy, and they will trust you.
